Beauty
Beauty is a subjective term that is not defined in the same ways amongst cultures, countries, and individuals. Scientifically, beauty is a reflection of health pronouncing, “I’m healthy and fertile. I can pass on your genes.” Beauty standards can be a cause for discrimination where studies suggest that more attractive people have more money, get called on more often in class, receive lighter court sentences, and are perceived as friendlier. This shallow view on beauty feeds a consumerist America. Over the span of 2014, in the United States, people spent six billion dollars on fragrance and six billion on makeup.
