Dolls
Historically, dolls are toys made my men and loved by girls who “play house.” Dolls are symbols of domesticity, maternity, and materialism changing over time to meet the needs of society. Early antebellum rag dolls promoted sewing skills, the fashion dolls of the Gilded Age promoted social rituals, the Progressive Era dolls encouraged health and active play, and the realistic baby dolls of the 1920s that continue into they modern day foster maternal instincts. Today dolls are still just as loved by girls have they have been for generations, and they continue to stand for femininity, domesticity, and maternity.
