Fathers
Historically, fathers play a special role in the lives of girls. When teens began to represent American life in media for the first time, fathers were presented as the center of the family, and thus the center of the nation. The role of the father in relation to girls perpetuates the ideals of a patriarchal society. Girlhood in media has been presented from the father-centered point of view in order for them to judge themselves from a masculine point-of-view, and teaching girls to avoid disrupting the order of society.
