HIV
HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, can lead to ADIS. The body is unable to get rid of HIV, which makes it a lifelong disease. About 50,000 people get infected with HIV each year in the United States. Men who have sex with men are at the highest risk of HIV infection. HIV can be spread in a number of ways including having sex with someone who has HIV, sharing needles with someone who has HIV, and being born to an infected mother. HIV is not spread through saliva. Practicing safe sex is a great way to prevent HIV infections.
