Shaving
Women's pursuit of smooth, hairless skin has been a beauty constant for centuries. Over the years, new methods and dramatic product improvements have changed the history of shaving hair. While the earlier history of shaving points to cleanliness and status, the more recent history of shaving all has to do with beauty and fashion. During the post-Victorian era, women started wearing more revealing clothes. They began shaving the areas exposed (legs and armpits). Later, the appearance of scantily-dressed models and trends in pornography trickled down in society so that shaving virtually every part of the body has become common (but certainly not necessary).
