Flapper Girls
The iconic Flappers of the 1920s represented a new type of feminism. After recent success in the long fight for suffrage, urban middle-class women of the north became interested in social equality rather than political equality. Women wanted to be able to enjoy themselves as men did socially, whether that was through sex, drinking, or through urban nightlife. Flapper girls have been defined by their raised hemlines, bobbed hair, and makeup emphasizing sexual freedom, thinness, and the cultural fashions.
